What is Doggie Daycare anyway?
Doggy daycare is just like daycare for kids, but it’s for dogs! In the morning, you drop off your loved one and a group of loving, well trained individuals cares for you pup all day long until you pick him or her back up! This safe, fun environment allows dogs to socialize and exercise all throughout the day. Our indoor play areas offer dogs a friendly, safe place to play without the dangers of rain, snow, extreme temperatures, or escape. Doggie Daycare helps dogs burns off excess energy, allowing dogs to be calmer, better behaved and ready to snooze through the night.
Much like you, your furry friend is an energetic, social animal requiring both mental and physical stimulation. That, and they like running around and playing all day. Just because you’re stuck in a cube from 9-5 doesn’t mean your BFF should be stuck in a crate or an empty house. Throw your dog a bone and bring him or her to The Dog Spot for some fun that’s truly off the leash.
All areas are heated and air conditioned, and fresh water is always available.
How does my dog become a member of The Dog Spot?
You must first fill out a New Membership Application and then set-up a time to bring in your best friend for an interview and temperament test. Documentation of vaccinations and spay or neuter certificates are required at this time. During your pup’s behavior assessment we will determine whether he/she is ready for group play.
May I tour the dog spot?
Of course! You are welcome to visit and tour the dog spot at any time, with or without notice! Don’t forget we have web-cams so you can keep an eye on your pup at any time.
How do you keep the place clean?
We constantly mop, sweep, sanitize and vacuum! The sanitation of The Dog Spot is a constant and ongoing process. Only the highest quality, pet safe, and industry specific disinfectants are used in our facility. Your dog’s safety, health and happiness are our highest priorities.
Does my dog have to be spayed or neutered?
All dogs over 6 months old must be spayed or neutered. We require that all dogs are healthy and free of contagious illnesses as well.
What do I NEED to bring for daycare/boarding?
The only thing we ask you to bring is your dog’s food, preferably in individual baggies. It’s best to keep your dog on the diet that he/she is used to in order to minimize the risk of an upset tummy. While we do have plenty of toys available for use during daycare sessions, you’re welcome to bring a few familiar toys from home that we can keep in the condo while your dog is boarding with us. Please be sure that all belongings are clearly labeled as they may be removed from the condo for periodic cleaning.
Are the dogs supervised at all times?
ABSOLUTELY! Although we separate dogs by size, temperament and personality, each play area has its own supervisor trained in canine behavior to help insure there are no turf wars. Daycare dogs are carefully monitored at all times in order to maximize fun and minimize conflict. Small dogs and puppies have a special area all to themselves. Our associates are trained in canine body language and are there to act as pack leaders to maintain a safe and positive experience.
Does everybody really get along? Do they ever fight?
Dogs are carefully and slowly introduced to their play group. Since dogs do bite and claw as they play, minor cuts and scratches are not uncommon, but you can rest assured every precaution is taken to avoid serious altercations. While there is never a guarantee that a fight won’t break out, The Dog Spot takes every precaution to avoid them. All dogs are interviewed before becoming members and those exhibiting aggressive behaviors are not admitted to daycare or allowed to board. Your pet’s safety is our top priority!
What is a temperament test and why does my pet need one?
We perform a series of planned exercises designed to assess the new dog’s potential for aggressive behavior. Simultaneously we determine the dog’s current level of social development to ensure that he/she is not aggressive and can play well with others.
Where do the dogs stay while they’re boarding?
Each dog has a clean doggy condo complete with comfy bedding and bowls for fresh water and food. There is a solid divider between each dog’s area so they have a sense of privacy and protection.
What’s included in the daycare rate?
The daycare rate allows your dog to frolic and play with other dogs all day long. Your dog will be constantly supervised, will benefit from increased exercise and will learn how to socialize.
What’s included in the boarding rate?
The nightly boarding rate of $35 ($25 for each additional dog) includes what you’d normally expect from a hotel – a private room, a comfy place to sleep, daily maid service, and meals delivered twice daily just like room service! This rate also includes a full day of daycare.
What happens at night?
Our staff is with the dogs until 7:30pm each night; and we return again at 6:30am. It works out to be just enough time for them to get a nice undisturbed sleep to rejuvenate for the next day of fun! Of course, we also have an alarm system to keep the facility secure.
Why don’t you offer cage free boarding?
The American Kennel Association and the vast majority of veterinarians are against cage free boarding. Dogs are den animals and feel more comfortable sleeping alone and being uninterrupted.
My dog is house trained. Will this be a problem in your indoor facility?
The vast majority of dogs we care for are house pets and very well house trained. We monitor everyone carefully to make sure they are going potty normally. We address any problems or inconsistencies as needed. Our artificial grass and fire hydrant helps the dogs feel at ease to go to the bathroom when necessary.
Will my dog’s housetraining be affected when he/she comes back home?
Unless you happen to have a fire hydrant and 25 other dogs in your living room, you shouldn’t see any changes in your dog’s potty habits!
Do you accept raw food?
We accept many different types of food, but have chosen not to accept raw meat because of the human health concern of handling raw meat. There are some frozen and formulated raw diets that may work well as an alternative during boarding. Please call for suggestions.
Do you separate giant dogs from little dogs?
Yes! We have a special area set aside for small dogs; this gives the wee ones a chance to let loose and play freely without worrying about being stepped on! Even though most of our large dogs would get along with small ones just fine, we maintain a strict policy for everyone’s safety.
How will my dog act when he gets home from daycare?
Dogs generally will drink a lot, eat, and sleep through the evening! As a precaution, please wait at least one hour after returning home to feed your dog. This will prevent any complications associated with eating soon after a day of active play.
